Game format:

The tournament is open to all bowlers who are bona fide members of their national federations, and will be under 22yrs of age as of the 1st of May 2014.

All bowlers will be required to provide officially documented proof of their established bowling average, based on a minimum of 21 games be it from one event, or a composite average from a number of leagues and/or tournaments. This average must have been established over the six calendar months finishing on the 31st March, 2014 (period 01/10/2013 – 31/03/2014). Such documented proof must be presented within a timeframe pertinent to the tournament dates, and also the above criteria for bowler averages. The Tournament Director has the right to scrutinize any bowler averages submitted, at any point before, during or after the Tournament.

Should any bowler’s current average be based on less than 21 games within said 6-month period, then an average established over a minimum of 21 games in the previous 6-month period (01/04/2013 – 30/09/2013) may be accepted. However, said average may not be more than 5 pins lower than that bowler’s current average.

Any bowlers who have no established average according to any of the above criteria may, on submitting his/her entry form request to be assessed and awarded an average by the Tournament Director.

It will be at the discretion of the Tournament Committee to scrutinize and re-rate any bowler’s average and division should this be suitable justified.

All participants will compete in three separate events: Singles (3 games), Doubles (3 games), Team of 4 (3 games). The cumulative pinfall over nine games shall determine qualification for the Masters Finals, followed by the Grand Finals.

The Singles event will have male and female categories, with 4 divisions, based on bowler average, in each category:

Male Division A: Average 180 or more
Male Division B: Average 150-179
Male Division C: Average 120-149
Male Division D: Average 120 or less

Female Division A: Average 170 or more
Female Division B: Average 145-169
Female Division C: Average 110-144
Female Division D: Average 110 or less

Doubles teams can be either single gender or mixed, teams placed in 4 divisions according to team average:
Division A1: Average 350 or more
Division A2: Average 295-349
Division B1: Average 230-294
Division A4: Average 229 or less

Teams of four, single gender or mixed, 2 divisions according to team average:
Division A: Average 600 or more
Division B: Average 599-or less

Qualification for the Masters Event will be based on the All Events final classifications. The top three bowlers from each of the eight divisions will qualify for the Masters, for a total of 24 competitors. The previous sub-divisions will be merged to form four divisions:
Male A, Male B, Female A and Female B

Sub-division A2 and B2 bowlers will be awarded a 10-pin bonus per game for this stage. All prior pin fall shall be discarded.

The Masters Event will be a 5-game, single Round Robin, one for each of the four divisions. Other than total pinfall per game including any division bonus, further win/draw bonuses will also be awarded in each match, those being:
20 pins per win
10 pins per draw

The four winners will be declared Masters Champion of their respective category

The Malta Youth Open Grand Finals will be competed between the Masters Winners, as follows:

Grand Final, Female Category
Masters Champion A vs. Masters Champion B

Grand Final, Male Category
Masters Champion A vs. Masters Champion B

The Grand Finals will be played consecutively, over two games, for total pin fall. Division B bowlers will receive a further 10 bonus pins per game. The eventual winners of these Grand Finals will be declared the 2014 MALTA YOUTH OPEN CHAMPIONS

Tax details: To the top three from each of the eight Singles divisions To top three teams from the four Doubles divisions To the top three four-man teams, two divisions To the top three in the four Masters divisions. The two eventual champions (male/female) will also receive a trophy and a ‘special’ prize

In the event of a tie in the Singles, Doubles, Teams of Four and also Masters Round Robin events, the player or team with the highest last game including any bonus points shall take the higher position.

If a tie still exists, then the player or team with the highest penultimate game shall take the higher position, and so on until the tie is broken.

In the event of a tie in either of the Grand Finals, a one ball roll off on a full set of pins will be played, repeated until the tie is broken.
